2009: Lisbon

Our first time in Portugal and we loved it.

We investigated Air Miles and managed to work out that you could fly to Europe fairly cheaply. So we pooled our points and set flew with BA to the Portuguese capital. We found it a fairly manageable capital and at the time very cheap compared to other cities. We watched the first pastel de Natas being made at Pastéis de Belém and of course, took away a box! The route 28 tram was a great way to see the city cheaply so we hopped on and hopped off. Pick pockets on the tram weren’t a problem for us but it may be more now. The castle was a great way to get some air and see the city, though the gradient of the hill to the hotel made it quite tiring!

What we liked
Weather was great for October
Easy going
Inexpensive at the time
What we didn't like
Our accommodation was too far and a steep walk to town
We were offered drugs on the street in town during the day
The bus back the airport turned up very late and took ages to get there (compared to on the way in)
