2003: Santorini

A last-minute booking turned out to be an amazing holiday.

We just walked into the travel agents in Central Milton Keynes and asked the travel agent to find us a holiday. She found us two weeks on this Greek Island, which we’d never heard of. We were not a couple at the time but after looking it up after booking it was one of the most romantic destinations in the world. Not sure if she was matchmaking or if it was a coincidence. Either way, the scenery was breathtaking and, as we were there for a fortnight, we got to explore a lot of the island.

We hired a car for a few days to explore further, which was an unusual experience. The car is just dropped off and the keys were just left under the mat. We realised after hiring that it only took half an hour to drive from one end to the other! The roads were scary at points (edges without any barriers) but we also got to see the ‘real Santorini’. The beaches were black volcanic sand with shady trees that dropped their sap on your head. There’s many other memories from this places but the page would go on for ages if they were included!
